About This Course

The VNS3 Certified Associate course is intended for individuals who are building their knowledge of cloud computing, networking, and security.

The VNS3 Associate course is focused on building strong fundamentals for VNS3 users to better understand the core of the network security software. This course will set a foundation in cloud computing basics, networking concepts, and security. While this course does not explicitly cover VNS3, it is fundamental for those who wish to continue the VNS3 training courses.

Grading and Timing

Course Timing

This course can be online-only or a combination of online and in-person. We estimate the course will take 10 hours to complete. This includes the videos, reading materials and some suggested external documentation cited in the course.

There is a 1 hour time limit to the final exam. The course modules are designed to build on existing knowledge, so the exams are “open-book”. All questions are limited to 1 submission attempt. After examinees attempt a question there is an option to check the answer.

Grading

This course will cover three Domains. Each Domain section will have a quiz. Quizes are 30% of the total grade. Each Domain section will have a hands-on lab, combined for a total of 25% of the final grade. The last section is the final exam counts as 45% of the total grade. Students must earn a 60 or higher on the course to pass.

Grade Distribution:

  • Lab assignments: 25%
  • Domain quizzes: 30%
  • Final exam: 45%

Ryan Koop

Ryan Koop is the Director of products and marketing at Cohesive Networks. He is responsible for product development and manages teams for public relations, international events, and content marketing. His role spans the technical product development, customer support, business development, and thought leadership needs of a growing company.

Previously, he worked at a trading platform software company in the US Derivative Markets. Ryan attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and is an Amazon AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a cloud/networking power user to start this course?

No. This course is an introduction to the fundamentals. This course focuses on cloud computing topics, security fundamentals, and networking concepts in abstract. We will reference other organizations' work for more in-depth information, such as the Amazon AWS security white papers or security experts' long-form articles. For hands-on work, there will be video examples, while the labs will be very similar to course videos.

Can I skip this course if I feel comfortable with cloud/networking?

We highly recommend at least skimming the sections and taking the quizzes and final. While it is a high-level view of cloud and networking we hope it will be a useful refresher. The content does assume some familiarity with the material and future training courses will build on these fundamentals.

What resources will I need to study and test?

A reliable, high speed internet connection, your favorite command line editor, and public cloud accounts will all help you complete lab assignments.

Ability to test in a virtualized environment such as Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure.
